The School of Art + Design is hosting a show featuring the work of over 30 SDSU Alumni and current graduate students from the Furniture Design and Woodworking Program.

The show will highlight recently retired professor, Wendy Maruyama, and her over 25 years of teaching legacy at San Diego State University. The exhibition will focus on the innovative work of Wendy’s many successful alums, as well as a brief history of her incredibly influential art practice.

About the Program: The Furniture Design and Woodworking program is part of the School of Art and Design at San Diego State University. It is one of the top furniture design and woodworking programs in the country and has a record of training accomplished artists, designers and makers. Many of our alumni have set up practices across the country and are making custom and production furniture projects of the highest quality. Many of our alumni also hold teaching positions at some of the finest art and design programs in the country.

The Furniture Design and Woodworking curriculum puts equal focus on the art, design, and craft of furniture and material driven sculptural objects. This allows for an incredible diversity of work to be produced by our students. I invite you to look through the portfolios on this site and see for yourself. I think you will see that our program’s focus on helping  students discover and develop their individual passion has led to some incredible work.
