Graduate Fiber Studies

General Overview

The Fiber specialization is part of the Applied Design emphasis in the Art major. The goal of the Fiber classes is to teach both traditional and experimental practices in order to provide students with the technical training and conceptual understanding to develop a mature and independent direction within the textile sensibility.

Coursework Overview

While there is not currently a specialization offered to graduate degree candidates in fiber at this time, graduate students from all Art graduate disciplines can enroll in fiber courses for interdisciplinary coursework. A very common cross-media combination is for jewelry and metalwork students to engage in metal-weaving, for example.

For more information about graduate fiber studies, you can contact the faculty member, Kathryn Harris or the art office at 619.594.6511(artinfo@mail.sdsu.edu).
