Catherine Gleason's Biography

Catherine Gleason is the Associate Director of San Diego State University?s Downtown Gallery, which is scheduled to open in the spring of 2009. She received her B.A. in Art History and Literature from the University of California, San Diego and her M.A. in Art History from the University of California, Riverside. Gleason has worked as a curator and art history lecturer in Southern California for more than ten years. From 1994 through 2001, she worked in the curatorial department of the California Center for the Arts Museum. In 2000, Gleason organized a major exhibition with bilingual catalogue on the work of Eloy Tarcisio, an artist who lives and works in Mexico City. Most recently, from 2005 through 2008, she held the position of Director of Exhibitions and Collections at the Oceanside Museum of Art. In 2007, she organized Jusour wa kusour (A Bridge and a Chasm): The Work of Doris Bittar, 1989-2007, the first solo museum exhibition of the work of Doris Bittar, an artist of Lebanese and Palestinian descent who lives and works in San Diego. In addition to serving as the SDSU Downtown Gallery director, Gleason also teaches curatorial theory and museum administration. .
