MA Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley
BA Stanford University

Dr. Rigby joined the Art History faculty in 1976 after teaching at the University of Montana, Tulane University, and the University of Victoria, British Columbia. Her area of publication is modern German art, with a specialization in German Expressionism. She has lectured at universities and museums, curated exhibitions, and received research grants from Canadian, German, and US funding agencies and foundations.

Her teaching, research, and university service was recognized in 2004/05 when she was the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts Monty Award recipient. That academic year she gave the College faculty commencement address. Her peak educational experience was living for three years at the International House, UC Berkeley during graduate school. This experience led her to become interested in introducing students to international travel. She co-initiated and co-led the School's Japan Study Tour with Dr. Hiroko Johnson for three years. Before retiring she served two years as interim director of the School of Art, Design, and Art History. As a retired faculty member she currently teaches nineteenth and early twentieth century art history and a graduate seminar in issues in art Fall semesters.

Ida Rigby's community service includes serving on the boards of the Dorland Mountain colony (a retreat for artists), the San Diego Museum of Art, the San Diego Museum of Man, and the Robert Gore Rifkind Foundation.
