Rizzhel Javier's Biography

Rizzhel Mae Javier is a born and raised San Diego native. In 2001, Rizzhel left her hometown to tread unfamiliar ground in Arcata, CA where she went to school at Humboldt State University. In the spring of 2007, she graduated with a BFA in Studio Art where she studied under Don Gregorio Anton. Rizzhel returned to San Diego in the fall of 2007 to be with her family and to start the MFA program at San Diego State University. During her time at HSU she was seduced by the photography medium and has made plans to refine her photographic work in the graduate program at SDSU. During her time at SDSU she has worked closely with the photography area and has studied under the late Walt Cotten and Richard Keeley. She is currently working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant instructing two-dimensional design.

Rizzhel has worked in the photography field as an art-maker, teacher and constant student. Her work primarily consists of photography using alternative processes. The images are often combined with mixed media to combine both 2D and 3D mediums. Her current work has yielded more sculptural forms although her ideas are constantly evolving. The life span of her work examines the self and human interaction in relationship to culture, society and self-reflection.

In the future she hopes to find a place for herself as a “professional student” somewhere in the art world. Rizzhel is constantly looking for ways to grow technically, conceptually and emotionally. She looks forward to the obstacles that lead her to her ultimate goal of becoming a working artist and educator.
