Thank you for visiting the website for the School of Art, Design and Art History. I hope you will find the answers to your questions here. It is always our hope that our faculty and facility will help also to stimulate you to ask more interesting questions. We believe that the free expression of the arts is essential to any society’s growth and transformation and they help us to have the tools to solve humanity’s most intractable problems. We expect our students will undergo profound changes in their time with us.
To that end, we try to provide a wide array of courses, which may morph and change from year to year. This year you will find that some of our facilities have increased or been upgraded. Extraordinary new faculty members have arrived. New offerings have become available. This site will help you understand what we have to offer and how we can help you create and then realize your goals.
Our faculty is involved with current technological innovations both in teach and in their art making. We have substantial strength in multimedia work, time-based media, all manifestations of digital expression, cross-departmental collaborations, internships, and study abroad options. We are strong in all traditional media as well.
No time spent on a website can substitute for a visit to our campus. Come and see our expansive studios, our “smart” classrooms and our galleries. Let us tell you of our plans for a new Downtown San Diego gallery in the most vital and exciting neighborhood in town. Share the excitement of our plans for a new Museum Studies program. Come and experience the energetic arts scene in San Diego, with more than 40 museums, many theaters, and galleries necklacing the beautiful waterfront and skyline. This is one of the most international cities in America and San Diego State University and the School of Art, Design and Art History are fully engaged in collaborations that take advantage of it all.
