Teaching
In 1982 and 1983 he was a visiting / exchange artist at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis
In 1986 and 1987 He was a visiting artist Professor at the Chinese Academy of Art in Hangzhou, China.
In 1998 he was a visiting Professor and artist in residence at the Zhejiang University of Technology, in Zhejiang Providence China.
In 2005 he was a Distinguished Visiting Artist at Suzhou University in Suzhou, China
Projects
Professor Mansfield is an environmental artist with a specialization in public art.
In 1997 he was the recipient of 1st place in an International Sculpture Competition sponsored by the Chinese Government and the City of Shanghai, China. His entry, titled Nocturne In Jade Green was constructed in 2001 in Long Life Park located in the center of the city of Shanghai.
In 2003 he was competitively selected to produce a series of large scale, site-specific sculptures for the new Technology City, a suburb of Suzhou, China. This series titled; Geometric Rhapsody was constructed in 2004 and dedicated in 2005.
His most recent proposed work titled: Spirit Field was competitively selected from an all China competition and is slated for construction in Jiang Su Province, China 2006.
Committee and Commission Service
Professor Mansfield served on the General Services Administration (GSA) of the Federal Governments Committee for The Art In Public Places Program, where he was a member from 1990 to 1995.
He also served on the city of San Diego's, Art Commission, Art in Public Places Program, where he was a member from 1996 to 2000.
He has served as a member of the public art selection committee for San Diego's, Center City Development Corporation, Martin Luther King Promenade.
At San Diego State University Professor he has been a member of the Campus Development Committee, which he has Chaired from 2004.
Background
Professor Mansfield, his wife Mingya and their ten year old, son Brendan, (Yang Yang) live in La Mesa, California; Merrifield Minnesota; and Hangzhou, China. He was raised in Northern Minnesota and continues to live there in the summers with his family when he is not working in China.
In the United States he has taught at; Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts; Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts; the University of Minnesota and San Diego State University .
