Bio

Mark Siprut is an educator, artist and designer. In addition to his formal studies in photography and printmaking, his current creative research is in time-base, interactive and electronic media. His work has been exhibited internationally. He promotes collaborative, interdisciplinary, and intercultural applications to visual communication. Siprut is the author of the Adobe Photoshop Handbook v3, published by Random House. In 1995-96 he was a Senior Fulbright Scholar in Graphic Design at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey and in 2003 and 2006 he taught at Anadolu University in Eskisehir, Turkey.

He is currently an Associate Professor in the Photography and Multimedia Emphasis Area in the School of Art and Design at San Diego State University (SDSU). He is also the School’s academic advisor and School Liaison for international studies in Art at SDSU. He earned his BA and MA in Art at Humboldt State University and his MFA in Art at University of California, Santa Barbara.

Mark’s current interactive work is inspired by his role as a single parent, as well as his interest on body language, body movement, and dance. The interactive game like nature of his work is heavily influenced by the struggles of parenthood, social and community issues and current politics along with his immersion into the electronic gaming culture, which is so popular among contemporary youth.
