Amplify Lecture Series

The Amplify Lecture Series is presented in conjunction with the School of Art and Design’s course titled “Artists and Designers in Real Time.” The series introduces students to the artistic production of BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and People with Disabilities and provides the context for the evolution of contemporary art and design practice that addresses access and visibility for historically underrepresented communities. Guest speakers include artists, designers, curators, art historians, and scholars who focus on the pressing cultural concerns of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

RADICAL EMPATHY AS AN OVERARCHING THEME

Radical empathy is a transformative agent that can fundamentally change our perspective by enabling us to consciously recognize other people’s circumstances. An untapped power, radical empathy has the potential to inspire positive change as it encourages authentic connections between individuals and communities of varying backgrounds and identities. The Amplify Lecture Series, with its focus on radical empathy, exemplifies the School of Art and Design’s commitment to acting as a force for the public good, with the goal of an equitable society.
