Bio

Chantel Paul is the galleries and exhibitions coordinator for the Gallery Program in the School of Art and Design for San Diego State University (SDSU), where she leads exhibition and public programming. She has held two gallery positions at SDSU, first as the coordinator and director for the SDSU Downtown Gallery (2015 – 2020) and her current role, overseeing the University Art Gallery, Flor y Canto Gallery, Everett Gee Jackson Gallery and Installation Gallery. Since beginning with SDSU in 2015, Paul has curated numerous exhibitions, including Holding Time, Tracing Light: Rachel Phillips (2023), Constructed Mythologies: Luis González Palma (2019) We Are Here/Estamos Aquí (2017), All Natural (2017) and Cathedrals: Jeff Ray (2016), among others. 

Prior to her work at SDSU, she served as the assistant curator at the Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) in San Diego, CA from 2010 - 2015. While there, she curated numerous exhibitions, including After Ansel Adams (2014), Staking Claim: A California Invitational (2013), which included an accompanying catalog, Kevin Cooley: Elements (2013) and Unusual Suspects: The Paintings and Photographs of Holly Roberts (2012). In addition to curatorial work, Paul has written for HereIn journal and has been invited to participate as a reviewer of work for nationally recognized photography festivals.
