Bio
Tessie Whitmore (b. El Monte, CA) received her MFA from Claremont Graduate University, Claremont in 2012 and her BFA in Drawing and Painting from California State University, Long Beach in 2009. She was a recipient of the Albert B. Friedman Grant Award in 2011 and the OC Art Grant in 2012. Recent solo shows and two-person exhibitions include Autonomie Projects and Hiatus series at Eastside International. Recent group exhibitions include Floor Flowers, curated by David Pagel, Claremont Graduate University; Torrance Art Museum; Fellows of Contemporary Art; den Contemporary; and ArtBaboo 146, Yokohama, Japan. Whitmore has currently been curating exhibitions throughout the Los Angeles area with her collective Manual History Machines includingSomething Within at the DAC Gallery in connection with the ECF Art Centers, Are Friends Electric I at Fellows of Contemporary Art and Are Friends Electric II at Claremont Graduate University receiving the 2014 Curators Lab Exhibition Award and The Familiar Unfamiliar, Wonder Valley, CA.
