Lecturer of Painting and Printmaking
Martin (Mix) Luera’s body of work encompasses a varied array of images and subject matters, attempting to offer the viewer a unique perspective on established themes. A self-proclaimed border artist, Martin has used history, culture, figure and representation to address the impact of his Mexican roots.
In his figurative paintings, Martin explores gender perceptions and expectations, depicting idealized male figures in situations and roles traditionally reserved for the female figure. As a transgender artist, he examines established gender roles in society and their effect on our everyday lives.
