Biographical Information
Kaiya Rainbolt earned her MFA in Metalwork from San Diego State University and her BA in English Literature from Earlham College in Richmond, IN. Though trained as a metalsmith Rainbolt creates sculptures using a wide variety of materials including fabrics, clothing, steel, lead, and animal hide – whatever material suits her concept. She is focused on creating work that has the potential to elicit a visceral response from the viewer to promote engagement in a way that can facilitate dialogue about socially sensitive issues. Rainbolt believes that an art object as a representation of a particular human struggle has the potential to span differences in experience, background, and culture, in a way that creates connection, generates empathy, and fosters understanding. Rainbolt currently lives in San Diego, CA
